Welcome to the ETUG Blogtalk!
Welcome to the site - this will be the base for the discussions on the uses of blogs in education over the next two weeks.
Your guides for the discussion are 4 educators from around the province who each in their own way have been exploring blogs both in and out of the online classroom. We've posted their bios to the site, and you can also check out their personal blog sites by using the links on the lower left hand column.
We've attempted to create a bit of structure for the discussion. Here's the proposed topics and order for the next two weeks:
- What is a weblog? (Brian Lamb - October 6, 7)
- How do I Get Started (Brian & Scott October 7,8)
- General Applications Of Weblogs (Crawford Killian October 9-10)
- Reports from the Lines of Electronic Culture (Laura Trippi October 9-17)
- Case Study 1 - TRecs (Crawford Killian October 13)
- Case Study 2 - Indisciplinary Education (June Lester October 14)
- Tools & Culture (Laura Trippi October 16)
One thing you'll notice is that, unlike an email-based ETUG discussion, it is more difficult here for you, an ETUG list member, to initiate a discussion. This is in small part because of the nature of blogs, in part because of the nature of this particular blog software, and in part because of the structure we've chosen. We can get into this more deeply as the discussion unflods and you'll learn that there are in gact ways for you to start discussions, but for now you can read more about how to interact in the discussions in the post 'How to Use this Site.'

I enjoyed reading Stephen Downes' commentary and summary of this Blogtalk; wondered if he's going to publish it right here in BlogTalk. I have to tell you how I found it.... a newbie's experience of discovery. :)
- followed somebody's (I lose track reading blog after blog!) link to David Wiley's list
- imported the list to my aggregator (just to see how that worked)
- started reading through the list
- found OLD Daily (I subscribe to Stephen's "weekly" by mail, but maybe I don't need to now that I'm using BlogExpress.)
- clicked the article about this Blogtalk.
